The Unpopular Opinions Book Tag!

Wednesday, June 22, 2016

In a desperate attempt to have new content, I begged people on Twitter to tag me to do some tags so that I'd have something posted on my blog. HAHAHA Desperate, indeed. Thanks to Bea of Confessions of a Pinay Bookaholic for tagging me to do the Unpopular Opinions Book Tag!

And what better way to force myself to actually do it than having someone to do it with? So after checking mine out, hopefully you'll also go to The Bibliophile Confessions for Inah's!

I gotta admit though, it was hard to go through my Goodreads shelf to answer these questions. I realized that I didn't actually read a lot of popular books. And I am severely lacking in the series department. But what did take me longer to do? Finding gifs of Rami Malek in Mr. Robot to go along with this post. Seriously, I spent so much time doing just that and yeah, I'm not a gif expert so that was difficult. I am so so so pumped for Mr. Robot that I stay up until 3AM almost every day just reading up on it and also looking at Rami Malek's photos and watching his interviews. It's all worth it though. I love looking at him HIHIHI But whatever, let's get right to this!

1. The I'm-okay-with-it-being-awkward-between-us and by us I mean the whole reading world AKA a popular book you didn't like

Well, this was easy. It seems like everyone in the book community loves The Night We Said Yes by Lauren Gibaldi. Even my favorite bloggers, who have the same tastes as me, loved it. While I do know people who didn't enjoy it too, this book was still pretty well-loved that I felt like I read a different book. And maybe because I like burning friendships (HAHA), I also didn't love Simon vs the Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli. I mean, I liked it but I did not love it like everyone else. Alsoooo, I think it's pretty popular but good lord do I hate The Vincent Boys by Abbi Glines.

Did you want to throw me pitchforks already? Haha! Read more for opinions I don't advertise that much!

2. The I-understand-what-it's-like-to-be-different AKA a book series that everyone hates but you love

Like I mentioned, I'm not a series person so I have nothing to answer to this but as for books that everyone seems to hate but I love and adore dearly, those would be: Those Girls by Lauren Saft and Althea & Oliver by Cristina Moracho. I think Althea & Oliver fares better between these two because it is critically lauded, unlike Those Girls which is just in the hated pile. I love Those Girls for the reason people hated it, because of its unlikable characters and the honest look into toxic friendships and the naughty teen hooligans. Anyway, I love Althea & Oliver so much even though it might seem to promote a wrong message in one of its plot arcs but it was so grittily real and beautiful.

3. The love-is-forever-bullshit AKA a love triangle where the MC ends up with the person you didn't want them to end up with

To this day, I haven't read Lauren Oliver's Requiem because JULIAN BB MY LOVE (I even wrote an essay on why I love him) but I recently learned that Lena doesn't even actually end up with anyone??? Is that true??? So it might not be apt for this question but it was obvious that Lena was Team Alex. /CRYING

Also, CHAOL from the Throne of Glass series. That is all. I still haven't proceeded with the series because CHAOL MY LOVE.

4. The not-most-of-them-no AKA a popular book genre you rarely reach for

I don't usually reach for historical novels because huhu, history. I'm not a history buff so, yeah. But when I do occasionally read one (usually accidentally), I keep on asking why I don't because I almost always love it. I think I'm just scared of history in general because I wasn't good at it in school. HAHAHA

5. The *gah*-no-more AKA a popular beloved character you didn't like

So I pretty much hated the characters in The Vincent Boys. I've only read Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick but I also pretty much wanted to gouge myself out. Patch? Bleh. But I guess the thing you'll hate me for is not loving Lola and Cricket from Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins. I like Cricket but I felt like he wasn't real. And for that, I also haven't finished Anna and the French Kiss  because I couldn't get into Etienne because dude <spoiler>I think you're cheating</spoiler>.

6. The I-will-try-harder AKA a popular author you can't seem to get into

Miranda Kenneally HUHUHU sorry but I do want to try harder. As of now, I've only read Racing Savannah and Jesse's Girl and both were 3-star reads for me. Everyone is saying to read the first books first so that I'll love her and her books more but I just haven't gotten around to it. Hopefully soon!

7. The I-cannot-think-of-anything-I-hate-more AKA popular trope you're tired of seeing

I HATE THE CHEATED-ON-HER-WITH-HER-BEST-FRIEND PLOT POINT SO MUCH I HAVE SO MUCH RAGE

Like, I do know it happens but DOES IT HAPPEN ALL THE TIME FOR ALMOST EVERY CHEATING BOOK TO HAVE IT? GOOD LORD

8. The fuck-society AKA you cannot pressure me into this AKA popular series you have no interest in reading

Sorry, friends. But I don't have plans to read anything by Cassandra Clare, or at least anything Shadowhunter-y. I might try The Infernal Devices trilogy because it's just a trilogy but maybe no. Also, that vampire series by Richelle Mead.

9. The saying goes, "The book is always better than the movie," but what movie do you prefer more than the book?

Can I think about it more? Or at least let me watch more book adaptations? Because I really do not have an answer.

***

So there's that! Please do comment on how much you hate me now or how much you agree with me. HAHAHA And link me to yours if you've done this tag so I can read it!

I do not like tagging people AKA I'm too lazy to think of people to tag so just do this tag if you want to! And leave me a link so I can read it as well!

  1. I love your answers, Dianne! High five on your answer to #3. When I saw that Chaol-Celeana ship went downhill (I blame twitter for this), I haven't continued the ToG series. I stopped at Crown of Midnight haha! (needs motivation to continue). Also, Requiem. (I'm team Alex though *peace yo*) That finale ending up with a cliffhanger isn't cool. haha!
