Rebel (Reboot, #2)
Title: Rebel (Reboot #2)
Author: Amy Tintera
Publisher: HarperTeen
Date of Publication: May 13, 2014

The sequel to the action-packed Reboot is a can't-miss thrill ride, perfect for fans of James Patterson, Veronica Roth, and Marie Lu.

After coming back from death as Reboots and being trained by HARC as soldiers, Wren and Callum have finally escaped north, where they hope to find a life of freedom. But when they arrive at the Reboot Reservation, it isn't what they expected. Under the rule of a bloodthirsty leader, Micah, the Reboots are about to wage an all-out war on the humans. Although Wren's instincts are telling her to set off into the wilderness on their own and leave the battle far behind, Callum is unwilling to let his human family be murdered. When Micah commits the ultimate betrayal, the choice is made for them. But Micah has also made a fatal mistake . . . he's underestimated Wren and Callum.

The explosive finale to the Reboot duology is full of riveting action and steamy love scenes as Wren and Callum become rebels against their own kind.

Review

My Rating: 5 out of 5 stars and all my lovin' and my future babies

Thank you to National Book Store, Sarah and Megan of HarperTeen and Edelweiss for the review copy. This in no way affected my views of the novel.

I read REBEL back in January and this was my immediate reaction/review on Goodreads:
OH MY GOD I PLEDGE ALLEGIANCE TO AMY TINTERA FOREVER

I WAS DANCING IN EXCITEMENT WHEN I GOT THIS AND I COULDN'T WAIT AND IMMEDIATELY READ IT AFTER GETTING IT. I WAS SCARED AS WELL BECAUSE HECK, WHAT IF IT DOES NOT LIVE UP TO REBOOT? BUT BOY WAS I WRONG. SO SO WRONG. I DON'T KNOW HOW IT CAN BE POSSIBLE BUT REBEL IS EVEN BETTER THAN REBOOT. ASDFGHJKL I KNOW RIGHT??? HOW CAN THAT HAPPEN? BUT GUYS, AMY TINTERA WILL ROCK YOUR REBOOT-LOVING INSIDES UNTIL YOU'RE GROWING A SECOND HEART JUST SO THERE'S MORE SPACE TO LOVE REBEL.

TOLD IN ALTERNATING POVS OF CALLUM AND WREN YOU GUYS!

FORGIVE MY ALL CAPS BUT I DON'T CARE I AM SHOUTING AND THIS IS JUST SO AMAZING IT'S BEYOND AMAZING

THIS BOOK IS BAMF
Truth be told, I am still this giddy about Rebel. I'm surprised my outburst made sense because I was just bombarded by thoughts of "THIS IS TOO AWESOME FOR WORDS" after I finished Rebel. Even after four months, I still can't organize my thoughts on how amazeballs Rebel is so to continue the tradition, this will be a list review!

Seven Reasons Why Rebel is THE BOMB

1. DUAL POV. I've always had a bias for stories told in multiple perspectives, especially if it's a he-said-she-said type. But then you can't even imagine the gravity of this for me guys because it's CALLUM'S POV. I love love love Callum and I'm willing to give my left kidney for him so to actually read his thoughts was just pure bliss. We got to see how he views Wren, the situation and how his mind works. In return, we get to know and understand him more, which only resulted to me loving him more. I especially love it when he's a tad bit jealous. GOLD.

2. Reversal of roles. In Reboot, Wren does all the saving, the planning, the negotiating, everything. But we know that Wren isn't exactly a leader. Sure, she leads the Reboots but she isn't the type to step up and initiate a plan. In Rebel, Callum steps up and does all of these, while still being guided by his morals and beliefs. AWESOME.

3. Good and bad as a spectrum. I've listed this reason in so many reviews I've written before but it really is a weakness of mine when a character, who so believes that there is no gray area between good and bad, gets his beliefs whacked out. This happens with Callum in here and it was such a marvelous experience to be with him in it. Callum knows that Wren has killed so many people but why is he okay with that but he's not okay with killing one himself? So many choices, so many dilemmas.

4. New characters. We got new characters that are as kick-ass as the ones we already love. Micah, while having skewed morals, was interesting because you do see his logic, as Wren did. Aside from our awesome new characters in Micah, Isaac and Riley, we also get to know the minor characters we love deeper and better. We get to read and experience Addie's smart mouth, Callum's brother David's cheekiness, the rebels and their advocacy and a whole lot more. Rebel is the book that keeps on giving. And giving. And it never runs out of awesomeness to give.

5. Romance. Callum and Wren's dance to romance in Reboot was so fantastically written that Amy Tintera had me like a dog drooling for more. But with Rebel, they're already together which means lots of kissy-kissy here and there and ALL THAT. Sigh, Callum and Wren are so sweet and touchy and just EEEEEKKK. My shipper heart is ablaze.

6. LOTS OF ACTION. Oh wow, guys. Reboot has tons of action right near the end but Rebel just keeps on giving us action scenes that your adrenaline levels won't have time to plateau before it peaks again. Oh good lord, my heart. And the number of deaths, oh lord, my heart's broken. Amy Tintera will make you invest in all these characters and then she'll kill them and while you get the why, you don't get how you'll pick up the pieces of your heart.

7. The ending. Goosebumps. Perfect last scene. Perfect last line. PERFECT.

Amy Tintera will rock your Reboot-loving insides until you're growing a second heart just so there's more space to love Rebel. I had high expectations for Rebel but it blew all of them out into ether. I asked for a lot in this finale and I got them all and more. So much more. I can't even remember how many times I've re-read Reboot and Rebel. Guys, if you haven't started this duology yet, I'm telling you, YOU. SHOULD. START. NOW.
