Rewrite Redemption
Title: Rewrite Redemption
Author: J.H. Walker
Date of Publication: January 25, 2013

She’s sixteen. He’s seventeen. They don’t know each other…at least not yet.

She has a secret and her whole life revolves around keeping it. Every few months and with little warning, she simply disappears, pulled into the past for hours or even days. She’s terrified it will happen in front of someone, changing her life forever. So far, the only witnesses have been her parents, and that didn’t end well. She has no control over it and no idea why it happens to her.

She wants answers.

He has answers—at least he understands what’s going on. He has a secret, too. He’s part of an organization that goes back in time to rewrite reality. But he also has a problem. He broke the organization’s number-one rule by altering his own timeline. As punishment, he’s been blocked from time travel, which is most unfortunate. Because the changes he made to his timeline, accidentally resulted in disaster for his family. A disaster he’s now prevented from repairing. No one can travel beneath the organization’s radar except a Shadow. But they’re rare, so rare he’s never even met one.

Then he moves to her town.

Thank you to Giselle of Xpresso Book Tours and to the author for the review copy! This in no way affected my views of the novel.

Guys, TIME TRAVEL. What more can you ask for? Knowing that this is a time travel novel, I immediately signed up for the tour. And I wasn't disappointed! I read this in one sitting and in fact, I am groggy as if I traveled back in time (as if I know what that would entail!) writing this review because I stayed up until 3AM reading this. I'm only running with 3 hours of sleep and yet I am giddy as heck writing this review. Where do I even start?

Right, the voice. Just from the opening paragraph, the voice of the character grabbed me. It's so casual, as if we're friends talking, which made reading this such a breeze. So if you're asking if it's in teenspeak, I am happy to report that it is! Then the piece de resistance this early in the game, I discovered by the second chapter that it's in dual POV. I am a goner. Two teens I want to get to know with probably an amazing adventure and story ahead of them? Sign me up. Forget the eyebags the next day. I have to finish this.

The perspectives alternate from AJ Jones, a girl who can travel back in time without her control, and Constantine Demille, a guy who's part of an organization that travels back in time to edit the past. Right from that set-up, I want to gobble up this book. She wants answers! He has answers! At the start, these two engaging and endearing characters tell us their story. While I was so excited to just get to the good stuff, they never bored me. I was so engrossed in their plights that it made their meeting all the more exciting for me.

As for the science in this novel, oh golly goodness, the science. You all know I'm a science geek and I adore to bits sci-fi novels that actually sound legit and scientifically possible. The time travel mechanism in this novel is fresh and definitely something I've never read before. A truckload of brownie points for that! Seriously, the science, while maybe far-fetched to think of as possible, is actually very logical. I was smiling with all the explanations. Plus, non-science people wouldn't be bombarded with too much information and jargon because the author was able to explain it wonderfully. So on that front, wow.

I admit, the romance in here is a semi-instalove. Oh wow, who am I kidding and defending? It is a case of instalove but before you write off this novel, just listen to me. I loathe instalove with a passion but sometimes, I come across instalove romances that don't make me scoff. Me, the instalove-scoffer, didn't scoff in here at all. Sure, they're connected in perfect harmony but even that had a science backing it up which just got me so tickled with glee. Plus, the attack to the romance wasn't irritating like most instalove, in that they just profess their love for each other and get together. In here, they admit to themselves that they like the other but they face a lot of trials and tribulations and wrong assumptions (PEOPLE, JUST EXPRESS YOUR LOVE PLEASE, IT KILLS ME WHEN YOU KEEP IT ALL IN) and in the end, wee! Everything's fine and dandy.

Although like most time travel romances and romances of the forbidden (by science or whatever large force there is), this novel wrapped up the ending WAY too fast. Deus ex machina was present all around and I felt like I was in a whirlwind near the end because everything was explained and tied up so fast. I don't mind spending more time with these characters, heh. Yes, not only the protagonists but everyone was endearing and just I-can-read-about-these-people-more. So even though the ending wasn't my favorite, it still left a big (really big) smile on my face when I finished it.

I recommend this to time travel romance fans, especially to those who want something new with regards to the hows and whys of time travel. With engaging characters, romance and adventures, Rewrite Redemption will make you wish you can also time travel, meet your Time Traveling The One and make some babies with The One. Or no babies, whatever.
