Find Me
Title: Find Me
Author: Romily Bernard
Publisher: Harper Teen
Date of Publication: September 24, 2013
Genre: mystery YA thriller romance

“Find Me.”

These are the words written on Tessa Waye’s diary. The diary that ends up with Wick Tate. But Tessa’s just been found . . . dead.

Wick has the right computer-hacking skills for the job, but little interest in this perverse game of hide-and-seek. Until her sister Lily is the next target.

Then Griff, trailer-park boy next door and fellow hacker, shows up, intent on helping Wick. Is a happy ending possible with the threat of Wick’s deadbeat dad returning, the detective hunting him sniffing around Wick instead, and a killer taunting her at every step?

Foster child. Daughter of a felon. Loner hacker girl. Wick has a bad attitude and sarcasm to spare.

But she’s going to find this killer no matter what.

Because it just got personal.

Review

My Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

Thank you to Harper Teen and Edelweiss for the review copy! Having received a review copy did not affect my views of the novel.

Hackers in YA = gold. I think I have a new auto-buy topic. Aren't hackers so cool? Especially if they're teenage hackers. I can go on all day why I now worship hackers but for now, let's get to the review.

First, what a holy freakin' awesome cover. It looks simple enough but when you look closely, there's an outline of a girl in all those Find-Me's. Simple yet grabbing. HarperTeen has the best covers!

Our heroine, Wick, is a hacker. She and her younger sister Lily have been in the foster care system ever since their criminal dad was put into jail but he has since escaped. She's no stranger to crime and she even hacks for a living, stalking boyfriends and husbands for their girlfriends and wives. However, things go south when Tessa's diary was left in Wick's doorstep. Tessa was her ex-bestfriend who just recently committed suicide. Wick is now plunged into the task of finding out why Tessa killed herself and to know who caused it because she discovers that the next target is her sister Lily.

Wick, with a good-for-nothing dad and a mother who committed suicide, has long been jaded. Cynical, sarcastic and aloof, she keeps to herself and bonds with her computer aside from her new bestfriend whom she met on therapy. She and Lily now live with a new foster family and while she's so abrasive, inside, Wick is all heart. She loves her sister more than anything in the world and would do everything for her, including laying out her life.

Find Me has a sexy, slow-burning romance, which was such a feat for me. Mind you, this novel is completely clean and definitely categorized under young adult but why is it that the tension was so palpable? Oh right, it's because of our love interest, Griff. Griff is a hacker, a biker and is basically SSS. Which stands for sexy, smart and sensitive. Their every interaction, while completely for general patronage, oozed of chemistry and attraction, which I guess gave their romance some heat. Griff calls Wick Wicked, which is sooo cute and yes, endearing. I love nicknames or calling people with another name because it definitely shows either how close they are or if the person likes you.

Truth be told, I think Find Me deserves 5 stars simply because of how gripping it is. I was flying through the pages like I was running for my life. However, my busy schedule didn't allow me to read it in one-sitting and I truly feel that I would have given this book 5 stars if I've read it continuously. Well, maybe not, since I've pretty much guessed the mystery right from the start but still, even with me having the correct hunch, I still went I-cannot-put-this-down.

I can't wait to read more of Wick and Griff's hacking, loving, solving crimes and doling out justice. I will definitely read the next book and I bet its title is "Remember Me".

Find Me is a gripping mystery thriller which will suck you into its world and will not let you go until even after the last page. I recommend this to fans of YA mystery thrillers. There can never be enough of this genre in YA!

  1. I really enjoyed reading Find Me, too! I like the concept of having our two protagonists as hackers because I've never read a book with a character that is a hacker. The only thing I didn't like was the romance. I thought it was rushed and could have been better. I can't believe there's a sequel to this, though. It seems fine as a standalone, but interesting what the sequel would be. Great review (:
